Deathmatch is a sudden-death literary competition thrown annually since 20018 by Broken Pencil, Canada's beloved indie art and underground culture magazine (since '95!).  This year's stories shared themes of dystopia, technology, love, origin stories, and death.  The Deathmatch is always a great showcase of young and lesser-known talent and this year's roster proved no exception.  I really enjoyed peeling back the layers of narrative to create illustrations that felt spooky and subversive.

I wanted these to have a partially computer generated look, so these were all created with Illustrator's pen tool.  I skewed the symmetry slightly in places so they still had a little echo of humanity in them.
